HINT FOR SATURDAY NIGHT’S THEME (5.25.13)

22 May

HINT:

Old-timey songs plus violins, accordions, ukuleles, and even harps – - I know, it sounds like a nightmare New Jersey wedding, but no! This week Turntable For One is totally going “back to the FUTURE.”

HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT’S THEME (5.18.13)

8 May

Okay, let’s try this again, and this time I’ll go in and do the show.

HINT:

This week I might play “I’m In The Mood For Love,” but I won’t play “In The Mood.” I might play “I Think It’s Going To Rain Today,” but I won’t play “Stormy Weather.” I might play “I Talk To The Trees,” but I won’t play “Willow Weep For Me.”

BONUS HINTS AS A REWARD FOR YOUR PATIENCE:

I might play “You Are Too Beautiful,” but I won’t play, “But Beautiful.” I might play “I Remember You,”  but I won’t play “Memories Of You.”

Have you guessed the theme yet? Tune in this Saturday night to find out if you’re right, or to keep me company, at the very least.

18 Apr

This Saturday night be there to witness with your own ears the first-ever Turntable For One-Night Cafe Musical Smack-down.

For the past year, Will Duchon, host of The Night Cafe (Friday nights at 10:00 PM on WMNR) and I have been trading barbs — and I don’t mean trading women named Barbara so don’t even think of calling Gloria Allred!! Now it’s time to see who plays the best jazz vocals. Now it’s time to put up…or maybe it’s time to put down. I can’t remember which, but I’m sure there will be plenty of both when Will joins me in the studio this Saturday night on Turntable For One. Be there! Attendance will be taken!

HINT:
Riddle can go fiddle.
Billy May? No Way.
This week I’m pulling all the strings
and telling the winds to go blow.
Listen? Do you hear voices?
It’s just going to be that kind of show!

I usually play 10 or 11 singers each week. This week I’m going to double that number! But how???

28 Mar

HINT:

The first question asked of a composer and lyricist, whether a team or one person: “Which comes first, the words or the melody?” You won’t have to ask that about the songs I’m playing this week because there will be no doubt!

HINT:

What do these people have in common? Jimmy Durante, Arthur Schopenhauer, Robert Frost, and Tony Bennett?

Does it sound like I’m just name dropping? You’re getting warmer. Tune in Saturday night to hear the answer!
