About

ABOUT: TURNTABLE FOR ONE

TURNTABLE FOR ONE is a weekly, two-hour radio program of the best in jazz vocals, featuring classic singers who don’t need last names —  Ella, Tony, Frank, Carmen, Sarah — plus contemporary singers who are bringing new life and fresh voices to the Great American Songbook — Jamie Cullum, Emilie-Claire Barlow, Melody Gardot, Anita Wardell, and on and on…

Each show is organized (and we use that term advisedly) around a theme which can vary from the ridiculous to the sublime.  In fact, “From The Ridiculous To The Sublime” is exactly the kind of theme we’re talking about.

Listen to live TURNTABLE FOR ONE broadcasts each Saturday night at 9:00 PM on the stations of WMNR, Fine Arts Radio, and streaming on wmnr.org.

ABOUT: H. WILLIAM STINE

H. William Stine is a writer and video producer who has been creating media for more than four decades. For 33 years, he served as Creative Director and Executive Producer for the American Cancer Society’s national office. During his tenure, he was responsible for creating hundreds of videos, live presentations, radio spots, print pieces, and web content. He also had the opportunity to work with many fascinating people, including President Jimmy Carter, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Tom Selleck, Bradley Whitford, Richard Thomas, Elliot Gould, and Danny Kaye. He has won more than 30 Telly Awards for the videos he has created to date. In 2009, Bill launched his own company, Bill Stine Media.

He is also the co-author (with his wife, Megan) of more than 60 books for young readers. Together they collaborated on comedy scripts for a well-known New York radio personality and wrote television pilot scripts for CBS and ABC.

With TURNTABLE FOR ONE , Bill returns to his first love – radio. Having started out as a young announcer at WOSU-AM-FM, where he hosted classical music shifts, produced a folk music program, and wrote and co-hosted a program of original comedy and album-oriented rock, Bill has now created a new program in which he can explore the vocal and instrumental jazz music he’s loved his entire life. Bill- I think that your new endeavor is great! Where else can you write your own bio and refer to yourself as “he”.

Hello Anne and thanks so much for listening and writing.I know there are many things you could be doing on a Saturday night – alphabetizing the refrigerator, trying to put a cardigan sweater on your cat, think about all the things you could have bought with S&H Green Stamps. And maybe you do all of these things. But I’m glad that the radio is on in the background at 9:00 on a Saturday night. Take care – Bill

Thank you HWilliam for your coronation program— only you could honor the event without missing a (jazz lovers) beat! M
