PLAYLIST FOR “HOW SWEET IT IS” – AN ARCHIVE RE-BROADCAST (10.24.20)

Seems to me the world needs some sweetness even more than when I first did this show last June. Guaranteed “sweet” songs with no sugary aftertaste. Here’s how I introduced the show last summer. 

Sweet – it’s a word that you don’t hear much, especially now. Home Sweet Home? After three months of sheltering in place, what’s so sweet about being home? Sweet Dreams? Its been months since I had one. Sweet Spot? I know what it used to mean, but now it means keeping six feet away from people. Sweet Nothings? That’s still how most people describe the long, rambling opens to my shows (just like this). So I thought it was time to give Sweet a little love. It was only for two hours – then everyone could go back to life as we know it these days.

This is a re-broadcast of a show from last April, a simpler time when I couldn’t imagine that 8 months later things could be so much worse and heartache and loss could be so preponderant. This is how I introduced the playlist back then:

While everyone’s sheltering in place or self-quarantining, there are two ways to look at this week’s show featuring all live performances from jazz clubs and venues around the world: either I’m trying to make people feel bad because of all the night life we’re missing OR I’m trying to give people hope for what’s to come after this damned pandemic has run at least its first course. Saturday was World Mental Health Day. So, of course, I wanted to play two hours of positive, motivating, and encouraging songs. JUST KIDDING!!
