PLAYLIST FOR “MARIE KONDO WEEK!” (2,23.19)

24 Feb

This week’s show was a tribute to the diva of decluttering, the dean of de-accession, the titan of tidying up – Marie Kondo. I played nothing but music that “sparks joy” for me and tossed in a few joyful requests from the audience. Plus, following Marie Kondo’s advice, I gathered all my musical themes, thanked several of them for their service, and summarily threw them away.

HINT FOR THIS WEEK’S MUSICAL THEME (2.16.19)

12 Feb

HINT:

Valentine’s Day. Who doesn’t remember all those old fashioned romantic games, like avoiding eye contact with a creepy boy while you steal sips of his soda? Seems like Life and Love were both a lot simpler back then. Want to hear how complicated they are now? Tune in this week.

Turntable For One   Jazz Vocals   Saturday Nights 9-11 PM (E.S.T.)

PLAYLIST FOR “KICKING IT ‘OLD’ SCHOOL” (2.9.19)

I don’t get it why people are so negative about the word, old. Some of our greatest songwriters have used that word in some of their greatest songs. And some of our youngest singers are giving new voice to these old songs. I say, this grievous mistake must be corrected. (Or am I just up to my old tricks, trying to fill two hours with music? You be the judge…)

HINT FOR THIS WEEK’S MUSICAL THEME (2.9.19)

6 Feb

HINT:

We’ve all heard the same expressions; they’ve been drilled into us since we were very young: there’s no fool like an old fool; you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, that’s old hat, that’s old news, it’s just the same old same old… Just about every time you hear the word OLD, it’s negative and disparaging.  Not this week, not on my show!

Explain to me again why we created a holiday to honor an ugly, destructive rodent and a misguided superstition while continuing to discredit the value of scientific facts in our lives?
