PLAYLIST FOR “OSCAR LOSERS…AND A FEW WINNERS” (2.25.17)

Most of these songs are losers, Oscar losers, that is.  (Though none of the singers and musicians are.) In addition to paying tribute to the Oscar nominated songs, I also took time out to pay tribute to Sweden and Swedish jazz singers in their time of tears and trial following the terrorist attacks that so surprised, if not stunned, us all when we heard about them.

It’s true that smiling requires more muscles than frowning, which must be why smiling always tires me so quickly. Still, considering all that we know and fear about the world today, I thought it was worth spending a couple hours focusing on laughing and smiling. It seems to me that you always and only have two choices. Doesn’t matter what it is, a question, a news story, a ballgame, an election – whatever  – you have the same two choices: laugh or cry. I’ll be flipping a coin on Saturday to see which we’ll do.
