PLAYLIST FOR “GHOSTS AND GOBLINS AND WITCHES AND SPELLS” (10.27.12)

29 Oct

Don’t you love Halloween traditions? Like songs about ghosts and witches and spells; and hurricanes that change the geography of the East Coast and turn off the electricity for at least a week. I prefer the tradition of killing people with a tossed handful of flour rather than with hurricanes. Let’s cancel this modern-day tradition for next year, okay?

Don’t know for certain if there will be a live show this coming Saturday. Watch this space for updates.

And while you’re here, click on Thanksgiving Show to see if you’d like to make a musical contribution to the show.

HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT’S THEME (10.27.12)

24 Oct

HINT:

Round about the caldron go;
In the poison’d entrails throw.—
Toad, that under cold stone,
Days and nights has thirty-one;
Swelter’d venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i’ the charmed pot!

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

Is that a description of me in the kitchen whipping up my oft-disparaged béchamel sauce? Yes, but it has an entirely different meaning when it comes to the musical theme for this week’s Turntable For One.

Hey – while you’re here, click on the Thanksgiving  Show link in the right-hand corner and check out how you can be a part of this year’s special music  show.

PLAYLIST FOR “ANTHROPOMORPHISM” (10.13.12)

13 Oct

This week, as another in a series of uncalled for public services, I tried to warn you about a musical danger which is as rampant as it is clever – Anthropomorphism in the Great American Songbook. Don’t try to thank me — just doing my job. Okay, I changed my mind. Go ahead, try to thank me.

Here’s the playlist of the examples I chose.

HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT’S THEME (10.6.12)

3 Oct

HINT:

If Turntable For One were a movie this week, it would be “To Kvetch A Thief;” if Turntable For One were a musical based on a movie, it would be “Kvetch Me If You Can;” if Turntable For One were a book, it would be “Kvetcher In The Rye;” and if Turntable For One were a fishing show (or a Jets receiver), it would be “Kvetch and Release.” But Turntable For One is an hour of jazz vocals. So what will I be playing this Saturday night?
