PLAYLIST FOR “MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO LOW SELF-ESTEEM” & “MUSICAL MASH-UPS” (3.26.16)

26 Mar

I pulled a couple shows from the archives for everyone’s listening pleasure this week. I’ll be back live next Saturday night!

A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO LOW SELF-ESTEEM

I tried to play the best songs I could think of for this theme, but I probably left out all the really good ones. Crap. I knew I was going to screw it up. Why did I think I could do this right? What was I thinking?

Uh-Oh. Maybe I’ve been thinking about Low Self-Esteem a little too long this week.

HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT’S THEME (3.19.16) #jazz #jazzradio #jazzsingers

16 Mar

HINT:

You’ve heard the voices – negative, cynical, caustic. (I don’t think those voices are just in my head.) Everything is in decline, say the voices. The best is not yet to come, they grumble. Well, I say, No! Because I know how to make things great again and, with the help of a couple dozen wonderful singers and musicians, I’ll reveal how this Saturday night!

PLAYLIST FOR “DEMENTIA REDUX” AND “IT’S ABOUT TIME” (3.12.16) #jazz #jazzradio #jazzsingers

13 Mar

Everything was clicking along with great songs, great singers, and a very current and topical theme – Dementia – when I seemed to remember suddenly (and conveniently) that I had done this very same theme three weeks ago. I thought it was the perfect example of “form is content.” I also thought someone in the audience might call me out on this “mistake,” but I guess either the audience is just too kind and considerate to criticize me or dementia is more of a problem than I thought. So I quickly switched gears and since it was Daylight Saving Time “Spring Ahead” night, I played an hour of songs about Time

6 Mar

I thought we could all use a two-hour break from the endless diarrhetic diatribes of easy answers and dichotomous thinking. Not all questions can be answered in a beat-the-buzzer 90-seconds. In fact, some of the swinging questions I played took more than five minutes just to ask.
