Thanks for joining me for our St. Patrick’s Day revelry, featuring a stew of Irish songs, Irish singers, and even a few Irish jazz singers we don’t hear often over here. Though my favorite part of the show was eating an entire bowl of Lucky Charms.

Hint:

This Saturday is a special holiday, a holiday that inspires people to gather, to march in parades, get drunk, and be rowdy — Saturday is National Submarine Day, but forget about it. Anyone know of any other holiday we could celebrate with some great jazz vocals?

PLAYLIST FOR “WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL” (3.10.12)

11 Mar

Thanks for sharing Lawrence Welk’s birthday celebration with me. I will always think of him as one of those musical soldiers, who, even in the face of Daylight Saving Time, was always trying to turn the clocks back. In weeks to come you won’t want to miss other stirring Turntable For One tributes to those singers and musicians who helped make music what it is today, by retiring, giving up, getting into debilitating fistfights, and/or opening up dry cleaning shops. Bless them all.

I’ll put up a hint about next week’s show on Wednesday, and talk to you next week.

HINT:

It’s his birthday this Sunday! He’s 109 years old! He won’t be at Saturday night’s Turntable For One party; neither will a single note of his music.  But because of him, it’s going to be a wonderful,  wonderful show!

Listen this Saturday night for an hour of great jazz vocals, plus must-have information regarding the imminent transition to Daylight Savings Time.

Turntable For One.  Saturday night.  10:00 PM.  Live radio on WMNR and wmnr.org!

Ever wonder how much chaos I can create on someone else’s show? Find out this Friday night when I guest-host The Night Cafe.  Friday night.  10:00 PM.  WMNR, wmnr.org
