A WORD ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHOW (1.31.15)

29 Jan

Anyone notice I’ve been gone? Just me? Thought so. Okay. in that case, I’m sure the news that I won’t be in the studio this week either won’t rock your world -not nearly as much as this year’s flu has rocked mine for the past two week. (Fair and balanced though I am, I can say nothing to recommend having the flu, nothing whatsoever.) I’m going to take another week to see if I can stop coughing long enough to say my name plus a word or two after that.

The good news is we’ll be playing one of my favorite shows as an Archive Encore this Saturday night, so that you can relive one more time all of the fun, mystery, and erudition which was missing when I did this show live and is still missing. (People need some consistency to anchor their lives, right?)

Watch this space for news about my return to life and to live programs.

PLAYLIST FOR “OLDIES BUT GOODIES WEEK” – AN ARCHIVE ENCORE (1.17.15) #jazz

19 Jan

Couldn’t do a live show this week, so I reached into the Turntable For One archives for an oldie but goodie – which happened to be “Oldies But Goodies Week.”

It was “Oldies But Goodies Week” on the show this week, but I didn’t mean the songs. I meant the singers! To sing on this week’s show you needed to be 70-years-old at least; or if you weren’t 70, you had to be accompanied by (at least) a septuagenarian. By the time I’m in my 70s, I hope still to be cutting my own meat. But look what these singers produced even in the late stages of their careers.

HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT’S THEME (1.10.15)

6 Jan

Last week’s theme turned out to be, “Oh, no, you don’t.” Weather won that round and I couldn’t get to the station for a live show. Hope you enjoyed the show from the archives. Let’s try this again with a different theme, ok?

HINT:

People can make all kinds of suggestions. They make helpful suggestions, or constructive suggestions, or timely suggestions, or improper suggestions. Guess which one I’m focusing on this Saturday night?
