PLAYLIST FOR “HALLOWEEN PARTY 2018” (10.27.18)

28 Oct

Time for my annual Halloween party with haunting melodies sung by some of my favorite ghosts and others. Another Turntable For One tradition: trick or treaters coming to the door dressed in celebrity costumes and me handing out appropriate songs to them (since I’ve usually eaten all of the Halloween candy by then). This year, because of the truly scary and horrible events of Saturday and the past week(s), I started with a special Nina Simone song I’d play if the poor battered and beleaguered world came to my door. Nina recorded that song in 1968. Why is it still so heartbreakingly relevant today?

PLAYLIST FOR “THE TRUTH ABOUT MEN” (10.6.18)

7 Oct

Since we learned this week – much to my surprise – that it’s a scary time for men and that men are the true victims here, I had to do something to support all these poor unfortunate men, victims of an unfair society that never gives them any power nor respect. But what could I do being just a simple and largely ignored radio host? How about a testosterone-filled evening of man-splaining, man-rationalizing, and man-boasting songs, plus beer, of course, with an occasional view from a woman’s perspective? Here’s hoping for a better world…what are the chances?

CHANGE OF PLANS!! NEW HINT FOR THIS WEEK’S MUSICAL THEME (10.6.18)

4 Oct

NEW HINT:

Because of the week it has been, I’m changing my theme. I’d much rather focus on those indomitable heroes who bravely venture forth to their offices, board rooms, media companies, hedge funds, comedy clubs, or the Supreme Court, never knowing when something unexpected, such as Truth, might try to take away all the power they think they’re entitled to. (Shown above: The Senate Judiciary Committee.)
