HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT’S THEME (5.23.14)

21 May

HINT:

Hitchcock’s “Psycho?” Scary, but creepy, too.  “Silence of the Lambs?” A few chills…pass the fava beans.  “Alien?” Ok, now we’re talking scary! But no movie, TV, or radio show has ever given you the willies the way I will this Saturday night. Don’t listen alone!!

HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT’S THEME (5.10.14)

7 May

HINT:

This week I might play Ella, but definitely not Sarah. I might play Helen Merrill, but definitely not Carmen McRae. I might play Shirley Horn, but definitely not Lena Horne. I might play Nancy Sinatra or Nancy Wilson, but definitely not Nancy LaMott. There’s a pattern here. See it? All will be revealed this Saturday night.

30 Apr

HINT:

Jazz singers and country singers. Maybe you’re thinking, irreconcilable differences. But I’m picturing a Venn Diagram and now I’m thinking, hey, I’ve got  a very interesting hour of music planned.

9 Apr

HINT:

Here’s what you’ll need for listening to this week’s Turntable For One: a radio (or internet radio), 2 ears — but wait!! There’s more: you’ll also need a well-lighted room, comfortable clothes, a warm, engaging smile, and a cell phone. Get the picture? You will Saturday night and I’ll be playing an hour of great jazz vocals to enhance the mood.

HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY’S THEME (4.5.14)

2 Apr

HINT: What do you call that feeling you get when the team that beat your team in the first round gets knocked out of the tournament in the second round, or that feeling you get when the hedge fund guy who lost all your investments goes to jail for fraud (pretend that could really happen)? It’s the same feeling a radio host feels when he gives you a vague and ambiguous hint about his musical theme and then enjoys watching you struggle and lose sleep trying to figure it out. Whatever you want to call it, I’ve got an hour of songs about it planned for this week.

HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT THEME (3.29.14)

26 Mar

HINT:

For this week’s program, I’m once again delving deep into the vast bowels of the Turntable For One recorded archives. (Perhaps a more elegant metaphor is wanted here). Nevertheless, I hope you’re ready to party Saturday night because on that show I threw an all-singing, all-star, all-out par-teee.

HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT’S SHOW (3.22.14)

19 Mar

HINT:

A while back I broke the Turntable For One record for the greatest number of singers played on the air during one show. (And I did it without playing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.) Well, since nobody wrote or called saying, “Don’t ever do anything like that again,” guess what? I’m doing something like that again.

Which record will I try to break this time? Tune in Saturday Night and find out!

HINT FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT’S THEME (3.15.14)

12 Mar

HINT:

March is supposed to come in like a lion and go out like a lamb, or vice versa. What if March decided to come in like a giraffe and go out like a lemur? Or a gibbon? Or a Ford Fiesta? Or a blueberry muffin?? You think this is madness? I wonder what kind of madness there could be in March?
