PLAYLIST FOR “LAUGHING AT LIFE” (AN ARCHIVE SHOW) (11.11.17)

13 Nov

Last Saturday, a trip down memory lane with an archive show from last February. I’ll be back in this studio this week!

It’s true that smiling requires more muscles than frowning, which must be why smiling always tires me so quickly. Still, considering all that we know and fear about the world today, I thought it was worth spending a couple hours focusing on laughing and smiling. I’ve been watching with horror the images of the millions of people whose only fault was being in the path of Harvey, Irma, Jose, and Maria. Will we ever be able to think about rain benignly again the way so many popular song writers have? PLAYLIST FOR “THE HEART WANTS WHAT IT WANTS” (5.6.17)

6 May

I believe human beings have one determinative principle – although principle seems to be a word that’s fallen from grace and practice these days. “The Heart Wants What It Wants” – Doesn’t that explain why people choose their partners, their meals, their cars, their politicians, and in the case of one of this week’s mystery vocalists, why he married his step-daughter. Emily Dickinson gave that phrase to the world in a letter.  I wonder if she would be happy about that today. I was happy about these songs for this week’s theme.
