PLAYLIST FOR “MUSIC OF THE WORLD” (4.22.17)

23 Apr

Saturday was Earth Day. I forgot to send the earth a card, but I did do a very responsible thing. I recycled a musical theme I’ve used before “Songs with the same word in the title.” Last night the word was World and sometimes Earth. It’s true that smiling requires more muscles than frowning, which must be why smiling always tires me so quickly. Still, considering all that we know and fear about the world today, I thought it was worth spending a couple hours focusing on laughing and smiling. PLAYLIST FOR “TWO SHOWS FROM THE ARCHIVE” (2.27.16) #jazz #jazzradio #jazzsingers

27 Feb

I played two shows from the archive while I took a Saturday off to gather my thoughts. I should have brought a leaf rake. First up was “All Talk Radio!” a show from last fall after an exciting two weeks at Pundit Training Camp where I learned the valuable lessons all pundits and news commentators know, such as: it’s not what you have to say, but how long it takes you to say it. Oh, I could have talked on and on and on and on about this, but I filled up most of the hour with some great songs about talking.

SONG TITLE  /  Artist  /  CD Or Album Title

  • HAPPY TALK  /  Nancy Wilson & Cannonball Adderley/  “Nancy Wilson & Cannonball Adderley”
  • TALK TO ME, TALK TO ME  /   Freddie Cole  /  “Talk To Me”
  • TALK TO ME BABY  /  Cleo Laine  /  “Quintessential Cleo”
  • YOUR MIND IS ON VACATION  /  Mose Allison  /  “Lounge Live From The Mountain Stage”
  • GIRL TALK  /  Holly Cole  /  “Girl Talk”

  • THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND  /  (Mystery Vocalist)  /  Bernie Sanders
  • SHOW ME  /  Karrin Allyson  /  “Daydream”
  • CAN WE TALK  /  Ben Sidran  /  “Don’t Cry For No Hipster”
  • EVERYBODY’S TALKIN’ AT ME  /  Donna Lewis  /  “Brand New Day”
  • I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT ANYMORE  /  Mark Jennett  /  “The Way I Am”
  • WORDS  /  The Real Group  /  “Live In Japan”

The second show, “The Complaint Department,” first aired 3 years ago. The only complaint I want to hear after the show is from your neighbors because you were playing the music too loud.

SONG TITLE  /  Artist  /  CD or Album Title
