SNOW JOKE REDUX

8 Feb

Did you like this week’s hint? Great! How’d you like another week to guess what the hint means? Double Great! I’ve got to put off that show for a week.We can all thank Winter Storm Nemo for this. I may never watch Finding Nemo ever again after this. And I may have to stop using the word mnemonic, too, although, in truth, I don’t often use that word anyway.

This Saturday tune in for a classic show from the Turntable For One archives.

PLAYLIST FOR “BROADWAY VS JAZZ, THE VOCAL SMACK-DOWN” (1.26.13)

27 Jan

I know it wasn’t really a fair competition, not when jazz (-inflected) singers can change characters with every song they sing, and look for  colors of melody and nuance of lyric to emphasize or embellish; while Broadway singers have to stay in character, become a part of a story, and yet still button an emotional moment. But this was a great excuse to listen to some of my favorite singers push the boundaries of their comfort zones.

HINT FOR SATURDAY NIGHT’S THEME (1.26.13)

23 Jan

Well if I can get over this bug and if the impending snow doesn’t bury us, I’ll be on the air twice on Saturday, Jan. 26th.

Broadway Bound  4:00 – 6:00 PM  –

Host Garrett Stack is taking a week off and asked if I would sit in for him.  Do I want to do a show when people are still awake? You bet! So join me for two hours of the best of Broadway, which in my mind means not one note by Andrew Lloyd Webber!

And stay up for Turntable For One  10:00 – 11:00 PM –

HINT:

Broadway singers singing jazz, or jazz singers singing Broadway – which team do you think will win?  And could this challenge possibly signal a long-awaited re-birth of donkey basketball?

Tune in Saturday to find out!
