PLAYLIST FOR “FEELS LIKE FALL” (9.28.24)

30 Sep

Why did I wear a sweater to the show this week? No buttons to struggle with? (I thought we were friends.) Because it feels like Fall!  So lots of fall and Autumn songs this week including Sarah Vaughan’s insane but irresistible version of Autumn Leaves. And I couldn’t sign off without a fond farewell to Benny Golson.

PLAYLIST FOR “LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN THE MAILBOX!” (5.25.19)

27 May

Instead of a theme, instead of featuring the oft-heard Turntable For One regulars – Sinatra, Tony, Carmen, Ella, Nina, etc. – I put Saturday’s show together with only some of the new music I received in the mail (both physical and virtual) in just the past two weeks. I generously didn’t go into the other things I find in my mail – things like memorial headstone catalogs and threatening letters from Social Security since they found out that I am neither social nor secure. Also: here’s a shout out to all of the singers and musicians listed below – young and old – and to their promoters; without them my audience and I would just have to stare at each other for two hours, and I think we know who would lose that staring contest.
