PLAYLIST FOR “THE MORE THE MERRIER” (2.18.23)

Usually I play 20-24 different singers, musicians, Mystery Vocalists each week. This week I challenged myself to play more. My goal was 57 different artists. Originally, my plan was play something by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, say Good Night, and go home. But because the choir threatened to sue me if I even mentioned their name on my show – probably for elder abuse – I had to come up with a different solution.

A couple of weeks ago I was watching a college football game. The final score was pretty humiliating – 77 to 21. And after the game, do you know what the losing coach said? “We lost.” He didn’t say, the game was rigged or it was stolen. He didn’t say someone in Venezuela or somewhere tampered with the scoreboard. He just said, “We lost. And it reminded me of a time long long ago when people actually admitted defeat, honestly and graciously. So I wanted to give them a little love and give a musical salute to all the gracious losers. Of course I tossed in a few sore losers just for comparison sake.

PLAYLIST FOR “SEASON FINALE 2021” (7.3.21)

It was the last show of the season. I’m off for two months replaced by live concerts from the Tanglewood Music Festival. But I’ll be keeping busy, once again firing up my ice cream truck and coming to a neighborhood near you. Here are some of the ice cream treats I’ll be featuring this year. Oh, and I also played a lot of songs about saying goodbye.

Wait till you try a Pandemic parfait. I know. I served this last year but I have a new variant this year. I think it’s a real killer.
This year I’ll be offering the Marjorie Taylor Green Sundae. Heavy on the whipped cream, heavier on the nuts
Of course I’ll have that old favorite, Cookie dough for the kid in you and play dough for the actual kids. They’ll eat it anyway.
How about my newest flavor – I just invented it in Jan. It’s Insurrection Ice Cream. It’s two parts Pabst Blue Ribbon and one part viagra. WARNING: If you have an Insurrection that lasts more than 4 hours, better call your lawyer.
One of my new favorites is Arizona chocolate chip. There are exactly 723 chocolate chips in a pint – we know because someone from Arizona has re-counted them three times.
Want something that’s locally sourced, non-GMO, organic, and recyclable? Try a napkin from the dispenser. My ice cream is a totally different story.
This year’s special offer: when you buy ten q-anon cones you get a free Jewish space laser.
Remember: My staff is fully vaccinated, they don’t wear masks, they don’t wear gloves, and they don’t wear hairnets – maybe I shouldn’t have told you that last one

I divided the show into two parts this week, one part the traditional Turntable For One party for St. Patrick’s Day, replete with Irish singers and musicians, Irish-American singers and musicians, and the most important Turntable for One tradition of all: me eating a bowl of Lucky Charms on the air. I spent the week wandering through the Turntable For One archives and found this show from Nov. 2019. It certainly made me nostalgic for doing a live show. Sigh… This is how I introduced the playlist back then:

If you ask me – and I’m going to pretend that you have – nothing stirs the heart and lifts our spirits like the men and women who, through practice and persistence, have mastered the art of violence — hey, wait a minute. After doing about a dozen Valentine’s Day shows over the years, I needed something new for this year’s theme. Out of the blue this theme came to me. I don’t know why I thought of it. Knowing that a lot of people need therapy these days, and especially after Saturday, I played a show from last July. I thought I could help. Okay, really, I thought I could take the night off. This was my intro back then…
