PLAYLIST FOR “MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO THE IMPERATIVE MOOD” (11.19.22)

21 Nov

Once again, Turntable For One went  where no other radio programs dare to go – possibly because all they care about is being entertaining. Instead I decided it was time to do my best to try to make grammar great – and even glorious – again! This time with a Musical Tribute to the Imperative Mood. Was there a test? No, I figure listening to my show is an endurance test and that’s enough.

PLAYLIST FOR “SONGS ABOUT SONGS” – A SHOW FROM THE ARCHIVES – (1.18.20)

20 Jan

MIA again last Saturday and pulled another show from the archive, a show from 2016. I’ll be back live this Saturday. Keep watching this space: Details to follow…

Over the last 7 years, I’ve thought of musical themes of songs for about nearly everything you can think of. Hope you caught my shows with songs about Boy Meets Tinder, Practical First Aid, and The Only Thing The NSA Isn’t Watching Is Paint Drying. This week’s theme, Songs About Songs, was (for a change) more about the music than my paranoia.  I’m content.

PLAYLIST FOR “HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY, NAT COLE!” (9.21.19)

21 Sep

Nat Cole would be 100 years old this year if he hadn’t died when he was 45. I suppose I should say something about how his music has lived on or how his legacy has lived on or how he has influenced so many singers and pianists. But, really, I just wanted to play some music I wanted to hear. In other words, it was business as usual at Turntable For One. But I was surprised to find so many tribute albums and pleased to include some from singers in Sweden, Belgium, and Mexico. Also gave a 100th birthday shout-out to George Shearing. But I don’t think he was listening.

PLAYLIST FOR “PREVIEW OF COMING ATTRACTIONS FOR 2019” (1.5.19)

6 Jan

The year in music didn’t start on a happy note. Kellye Gray, a unique and passionate singer died suddenly. Still, with all of these interesting new singers and all of the music being released we’ve never heard before from singers and musicians we know and love, I tried to tell my audience 2019 was going to be a good year for Turntable For One. How can you improve on perfection? Don’t ask me, but while I was pondering this irrelevant question last Saturday night, I played a show from May of 2017.  Most of the singers were mothers (in the best sense), I tossed in a hefty helping of motherly advice, plus a couple of momma’s boys to help me wish all mothers a happy Mother’s Day.

PLAYLIST FOR “NOSTALGIA NIGHT” – AN ARCHIVE PRESENTATION (3.10.18)

11 Mar

I replayed a show from last November because I couldn’t do a live show this week and, considering all the horrendous things that haves happened just since November, I’ve taken to longing for the good old days — of not so long ago. It was nostalgic for when I was smart and my phone was dumb, when a blue state was just me having a bad day, and when Harvey was a six-foot invisible rabbit you really wanted to see and not a creep you never want to see again. We can’t live in the past, but I don’t mind an occasional visit. I’ll be back from my trip down memory lane and in the studio next Saturday night.
