PLAYLIST FOR “I AIN’T GOT NOTHING BUT THE BLUES – 2020 EDITION” (5.30.20)

31 May

I’ve been in a terrible mood this week. Where to start?  100,000+ lost souls, crowded beach parties, rampant stupidity and rampant cruelty, local police looking like and acting like invading armies – whatever you might think, the answer is Yes! So how do you get  yourself out of a dark bad mood? Don’t ask me. I’ve no idea. All I know is how to pass it on and share it – along with some classic bad mood and blues songs by some exceptional singers and musicians.

PLAYLIST FOR “SONGS ABOUT SONGS” – A SHOW FROM THE ARCHIVES – (1.18.20)

20 Jan

MIA again last Saturday and pulled another show from the archive, a show from 2016. I’ll be back live this Saturday. Keep watching this space: Details to follow…

Over the last 7 years, I’ve thought of musical themes of songs for about nearly everything you can think of. Hope you caught my shows with songs about Boy Meets Tinder, Practical First Aid, and The Only Thing The NSA Isn’t Watching Is Paint Drying. PLAYLIST FOR “LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN THE MAILBOX!” (5.25.19)

27 May

Instead of a theme, instead of featuring the oft-heard Turntable For One regulars – Sinatra, Tony, Carmen, Ella, Nina, etc. – I put Saturday’s show together with only some of the new music I received in the mail (both physical and virtual) in just the past two weeks. I generously didn’t go into the other things I find in my mail – things like memorial headstone catalogs and threatening letters from Social Security since they found out that I am neither social nor secure. Also: here’s a shout out to all of the singers and musicians listed below – young and old – and to their promoters; without them my audience and I would just have to stare at each other for two hours, and I think we know who would lose that staring contest.

PLAYLIST FOR “I’M IN THE MOOD FOR THE SUBJUNCTIVE” (3.30.19)

30 Mar

In an effort to save an endangered and near extinct treasure – good grammar, I renewed my effort to MGGA – Make Grammar Great Again – and offered a remedial lesson in the subjunctive, that form of grammar that expresses wishes and desires for things we don’t have. Of course, I had a lot of help from some wonderful adjunct songwriters and singers. Wish you’d never heard of the subjunctive mood? Hey, maybe you understand this stuff better than you think.

PLAYLIST FOR “MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO LOW SELF-ESTEEM” & “MUSICAL MASH-UPS” (3.26.16)

26 Mar

I pulled a couple shows from the archives for everyone’s listening pleasure this week. I’ll be back live next Saturday night!

A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO LOW SELF-ESTEEM

I tried to play the best songs I could think of for this theme, but I probably left out all the really good ones. Crap. I knew I was going to screw it up. Why did I think I could do this right? What was I thinking?

Uh-Oh. Maybe I’ve been thinking about Low Self-Esteem a little too long this week.
