I wandered through the Turntable For One archives this week.  I didn’t find my lost youth, but I did find a fun program worth giving a second listen.  Here’s what I wrote about it in January of ’24.

PLAYLIST FOR “A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO UNCERTAINTY” – AN ARCHIVE REBROADCAST (1.29.22)

I am certain of one thing: this weekend it snowed. It snowed a ton. And I didn’t make it to the station. So instead we listened to a show from last Fall. It certainly filled the two hours. And what else? Well, about that I am uncertain. Here’s what I wrote about the show back then:

Okay, everyone finds this poem iconic and inspiring. Really? Do you know where these roads go? I don’t. Do you know if there are bears or poison ivy or rest stops? I don’t. So how can you be so certain you’re making a good decision and not a bad mistake? You can’t! You can’t be certain and that’s about the only thing you can be certain of. Especially when I spent two hours presenting A Musical Tribute To Uncertainty. (Did everyone love it? Well, I’m not entirely certain about that…)

Taking baby steps – isn’t that what I was doing in my driveway after the last snow storm? Out of the mouths of babes – isn’t that why we put bibs on them? Sleep like a baby – I’m sure my audience can relate to that. Throw the baby out with the bath water – doesn’t that just mean it’s time to get your eyes examined? PLAYLIST FOR “LIGHTBULB MOMENTS” (11.13.21)

They don’t happen often and they don’t happen to everyone. But if one does happen to you, it could change your life. Of course I’m talking about an IRS audit. Of course I’m not talking about an IRS audit. I’m talking about those out-of-the-blue, eye opening moments of inspiration or maybe self-discovery. One thing: they’re always moments of clarity. I don’t know what you call them: Serendipity? Intuition? Divine Intervention? Years and years of therapy? I called them something else this week. I called them Lightbulb Moments because that’s how I could get two-hours of music out of them – tossing in a few personal lightbulb moments that changed my own musical life.

Okay, everyone finds this poem iconic and inspiring. Really? Do you know where these roads go? I don’t. Do you know if there are bears or poison ivy or rest stops? I don’t. So how can you be so certain you’re making a good decision and not a bad mistake? You can’t! You can’t be certain and that’s about the only thing you can be certain of.
