PLAYLIST FOR “RIGHT TRACK OR WRONG TRACK” 2.1.25

1 Feb

Are we on the right track or the wrong track? It’s a question and a concern for many many people these days. Did I have the answers? Did I offer words of wisdom to smooth and soothe the anxiety surrounding us? Of course not! Instead I did what I always do. I exploited that anxiety to fill two hours with music. But you gotta admit: it was some damned good music.

17 Oct

Inflation…Ukraine…Covid…Insurrection…Midterm Elections…Kanye West… Probably ready to reach for a Prilosec – or something stronger, right? Yes, the world is too much with us, so I invited my audience to take a chill pill and live in a chill pill alternate reality – but only a micro-dose and for two hours. The world was still waiting for us after the show. Sigh…

Looking back at the god-awful events of 2020 was entirely too upsetting, although looking back at how I reacted to those events with my musical themes may be almost as upsetting. I think we can do better in 2021. We have to.

PLAYLIST FOR “COULDA, WOULDA, SHOULDA” (8.30.14)

30 Aug

Summer is over which means time to put away put away your whites, your shorts, your suntan lotion, and reflect on the things we did last summer that we’ll remember all winter long — except I had one of those “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda” summers when I didn’t do any of the things I wanted and meant to do. Am I bitter? No more than usual. Am I depressed? (See previous response.) Because I have developed the useful skill of turning my pain in art…well, actually, other people do all the art. So are some of my favorite “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda” songs by some of the best new and old jazz singers. Check back on Wednesday for a hint about next Saturday night’s show.
