PLAYLIST FOR “SPRING HAS SPRUNG 2023” (3.25.23)

26 Mar

What do these things have in common: a pogo stick, a diving board, a trampoline?  Three things I wouldn’t be caught dead on? True but not what I was thinking. The three worst golden anniversary gifts? Also true but I couldn’t get two hours of music out of that. Answer: they all have springs! And that’s what I celebrated with two hours of Spring songs, with a nod to Spring planting with Mark Jennett, Spring Fever with Gretje Angell, and Spring cleaning with Kevin Mahogany. Proving once again that Turntable For One comes in like a lamb and goes out like a lamb chop.

PLAYLIST FOR “WHERE OR WHEN” (2.4.23)

5 Feb

When I was a kid, the questions I asked were Who, What, Where, and How. Mostly because I was just trying to figure out if Col. Mustard killed Miss Scarlet with the candlestick in the conservatory. (Who knew there was so much murder at Julliard?) Well, now I mostly just ask two questions: Where – as in Where did I leave my glasses? And When – as in When did we have that conversation?  So because my show is nothing if not self-involved and self-referential, I played two hours of Where or When songs. PLAYLIST FOR “AN EVENING WITH FRANK” (AN ARCHIVE REBROADCAST) (10.8.22)

9 Oct

Couldn’t do a live show this week, so I led my audience on a trip down memory lane…which, admittedly, is becoming a shorter and shorter trip for me. Here’s what I wrote when the show was first broadcast.

He gave us so much wonderful, unforgettable music. Wait, you’re thinking of that Frank? I was thinking of Frank Loesser and I tried to squeeze as many gems in his voluminous songbook from movies, Broadway, and popular song into a couple hours as I could. PLAYLIST FOR “TURNTABLE FOR ONE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY” -AN ARCHIVE REBROADCAST (12.18.21)

19 Dec

I started my Christmas vacation a little early and played the 2020 Christmas program, recorded back when we were all concerned about the pandemic and worried if large gatherings were the smartest way to celebrate the holiday. Hmmm – it seems the more things change…  Here’s the description I wrote about the show last year:

Some traditional holiday favorites, both from the show and around my house; plus a demo of a Christmas song with music composed by my son, Cody, and lyrics written by my wife, Megan. And if that weren’t enough to keep you awake and because no one begged me not to do it, once again I played the worst Christmas song ever written as sung by Robert Goulet. And what Turntable For One Christmas Party would be complete without the annual and traditional heartwarming retelling of the story of how a beloved Christmas song nearly got me expelled from Hebrew school? Merry and Happy and the best and safest holidays possible for all.  I’ll be back in the new year.
