PLAYLIST FOR “DELUGE OF DILEMMAS” 9.8.24

9 Sep

When they come, they may be small, they may be large; they may come one at a time or maybe in bunches. You don’t always see them coming, but they’re coming.

Of course I’m talking about mosquito bites.  No — I’m talking about Dilemmas – those tricky speed bumps life throws at us.  You know, Which is better: fire or ice?  Window or aisle?  Or the one that vexes me most: fries or side salad?

How about these songs for a deluge of dilemmas?

PLAYLIST FOR “AN EVENING WITH FRANK” (AN ARCHIVE REBROADCAST) (10.8.22)

9 Oct

Couldn’t do a live show this week, so I led my audience on a trip down memory lane…which, admittedly, is becoming a shorter and shorter trip for me. Here’s what I wrote when the show was first broadcast.

He gave us so much wonderful, unforgettable music. Wait, you’re thinking of that Frank? I was thinking of Frank Loesser and I tried to squeeze as many gems in his voluminous songbook from movies, Broadway, and popular song into a couple hours as I could. But before the Evening With Frank began, I opened the show again with another song from a young Ukrainian jazz singer who remains (as of this posting) safe and even hopeful in Kyiv.

SONG TITLE  /  Artist  /  CD Or Album Title

  • TAKE LOVE EASY  /  Alina Zalozna Quartet
  • GUYS AND DOLLS  /  Sammy Davis Jr.  /   “If I Ruled The World”
  • LUCK BE A LADY  /  Frank Sinatra  /   “Best Of Vegas”
  • MOMENTS LIKE THIS  /  Peggy Lee  /   “Basin Street East Proudly Presents Miss Peggy Lee”

  • LET’S GET LOST  /  Cyrille Aimee  /   “Let’s Get Lost”
  • MORE I CANNOT WISH YOU  /  Johnny Hartman  /   “This One’s For Tedi”
  • TWO SLEEPY PEOPLE  /  (Mystery Vocalists)  /   Carly Simon & John Travolta  /   “Film Noir”
  • NEVER WILL I MARRY  Kelly Green  /   “Life Rearranged”
  • I’VE NEVER BEEN IJN LOVE BEFORE  /  Oscar Peterson Trio  /   “The Trio Live From Chicago”

PLAYLIST FOR “JUST JOE” – AN ARCHIVE RE-BROADCAST – (8.22.20)

23 Aug

This is a show from last March. At that time Joe Biden was an ascendent candidate and the man of the moment. Ditto for this past week, so I played the show again. If you don’t think that Biden is the man of the moment, feel free to tell yourself that the show is dedicated to Joe DiMaggio, or Jo March, or Joseph K or just a cup of joe. To give an appearance of fairness back then, I tossed in a couple songs for Bernie, too. I kept those in. Back with a new show next week.

PLAYLIST FOR “JUST JOE” (3.07.20)

8 Mar

I planned this show months and months ago, just a show featuring some of my favorite songs, singers, and musicians all named Joe. At the time I thought Joe Biden was toast, not someone voters months later would be toasting. Okay, times are different now, but no way I’m throwing away a good idea – especially since they are coming with less and less frequency. To give an appearance of fairness, I tossed in a couple songs for Bernie, too.
