PLAYLIST FOR “FOUL PLAY” (6.15.24)

What can you do when you’re in a foul mood except play songs about foul play, and foul weather, andfowl weather, and on and on in that foul trajectory? Plus as an early Father’s Day gift, my wife and son joined me in the studio to talk about Cody’s music and to play the game he and I have played for years: count the number of quotes in a Dexter Gordon solo. Sure, I promised my audience a special April 1st show with a new recording of Rod Stewart singing “Nessun Dorma,” a YouTube video of The Boy’s Choir of Galway Cathedral singing in Gaelic, “99 Bottles Of Beer On The Wall,” plus a bootleg from a Joni Mitchell recording session where Joni is aiming a profanity-lace rant at her assistant who gave her the wrong bottle of spring water. Okay, that stuff I couldn’t deliver. But a couple hours of songs about fools and foolishness was a foolproof formula for a great April Fools Day show.
