PLAYLIST FOR “CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY 2019” (4.27.19)

28 Apr

Okay, I know I was celebrating International Jazz Day a little early. But I was eager to feature a few of the singers from around the world who are fighting the good fight to keep jazz alive, thriving, and swinging. I also asked some of my favorites to  record messages introducing a song or singer important and influential to them. PLAYLIST FOR “WINNERS AND LOSERS” (11.3.18)

29 Dec

Soon it will all be in the rearview mirror; the midterms will have passed, and we’ll know who are the winners and who are the losers. It will all be over – except for the celebrating, the crying, the blaming, the lawsuits, the recounts, the excuses, the recriminations, the marches, the protests. So just to ease my listeners into this traditional, all-American period of jubilation and mourning, I played songs abut winning and losing. The singers, however, were all total winners.

PLAYLIST FOR “HITTING BOTTOM” (5.5.18)

6 May

I know it was wishful thinking on my part, but on Saturday’s show I celebrated finally hitting bottom. No, this wasn’t a tribute to Stormy Daniels, it was a realization that the way things are going, I may not live long enough to see us hit the actual bottom. All the songs and some of the singers know exactly what I meant.  So now, after this show, I can tell myself (or pretend) that things will start to get better. (I’m not holding my breath, because I know I really won’t live long enough that way.)
