PLAYLIST FOR “HOW SWEET IT IS” (6.13.20)

14 Jun

Sweet – it’s a word that you don’t hear much, especially now. Home Sweet Home? After three months of sheltering in place, what’s so sweet about being home? Sweet Dreams? Its been months since I had one. Sweet Spot? I know what it used to mean, but now it means keeping six feet away from people. Sweet Nothings? That’s still how most people describe the long, rambling opens to my shows (just like this). So I thought it was time to give Sweet a little love. It was only for two hours – then everyone could go back to life as we know it these days.

PLAYLIST FOR “TEACHABLE MOMENTS” (2.22.20)

23 Feb

I thought when you experience a Teachable Moment, you’re supposed to reflect and even have a change of heart. The only reflection I’m seeing these days is in my mirror – and I’m not too happy with those results either. So I played a couple hours of songs about people confronting difficult situations in hopes that the music and messages might be helpful and instructive. Probably it instructed people to turn off their radios. Not exactly what I had planned.

PLAYLIST FOR “THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS” (2.1.20)

3 Feb

I’ve tried for months to do this theme, but something horrible would happen – in a mall, or a night club, or, dear God, another school. So, of course, out of decency I deferred. Besides, after a tragedy, that time is always reserved for politicians to offer their “thoughts and prayers” in lieu of doing anything. I thought I was safe this week, maybe because it was the night before the Super Bowl, or the night before Groundhog Day, or maybe because America really needs a hug this week, I offered some songs about thoughts and prayers.

PLAYLIST FOR “HITTING BOTTOM” (5.5.18)

6 May

I know it was wishful thinking on my part, but on Saturday’s show I celebrated finally hitting bottom. No, this wasn’t a tribute to Stormy Daniels, it was a realization that the way things are going, I may not live long enough to see us hit the actual bottom. All the songs and some of the singers know exactly what I meant.  So now, after this show, I can tell myself (or pretend) that things will start to get better.
