PLAYLIST FOR “A LITTLE LOVE TO UNLOVED LYRICISTS” 12.7.24

9 Dec

I don’t think a week has gone by when I haven’t played songs with lyrics by Larry Hart or Cole Porter or the Bergmans, or Ira Gershwin – until this week! I’m gave all those guys the night off and instead, focussed on lyricists whose songs we know – but their names… not so much. I spent the evening singing the praises of  such talented lyricists as Bob Russell, Caroll Coates, Bob Haymes, Peggy Lee, Ed Hayman, and others. Well, fortunately for my audience, I let other, more qualified people do the singing.

PLAYLIST FOR “CLIMATE CHANGE HIT PARADE” (6.10.23)

11 Jun

Everyone loved Orange Is The New Black. You know what we didn’t love? Orange Is The New Blue when huge, thick, toxic orange clouds of smoke from Canadian forest fires enveloped our cities, giving new meaning to huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Thanks, Canada. As if sending us Celine Dion wasn’t bad enough. I knew I had to do something sensitive and sympathetic for the millions of people who suffered this week. But instead I chose to exploit this tragedy to get some ironic laughs with tunes from the Climate Change Hit Parade.

PLAYLIST FOR “IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU” (4.18.20)

19 Apr

Week after week after week, for the last ten years, this show has been about three things: me, myself, and I. Sure, I’ve talked now and then about the audience and me being a team – but I’ve recently been reminded that there’s no “I” in team. And you can’t spell Turntable without “U”. So this week all of the music was dedicated and focussed on YOU. I figure after sucking up to the audience for two hours in ten years, things can get back to normal next week.
