PLAYLIST FOR “A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO MOMS 2020” (5.9.20)

11 May

She gave you 50% of your chromosomes, 75% of your attitudes, 90% of your self-esteem, and 100% of the conversations you have with your therapist. Moms. Where would we be without them? And even though Mother’s Day this year was a little more unusual than ever, I still maintained tradition with the annual Turntable For One tribute to Mother’s Day – with songs about moms, songs from mom’s point of view, and songs about motherly advice.

PLAYLIST FOR “IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU” (4.18.20)

19 Apr

Week after week after week, for the last ten years, this show has been about three things: me, myself, and I. Sure, I’ve talked now and then about the audience and me being a team – but I’ve recently been reminded that there’s no “I” in team. And you can’t spell Turntable without “U”. So this week all of the music was dedicated and focussed on YOU. I figure after sucking up to the audience for two hours in ten years, things can get back to normal next week.

PLAYLIST FOR “TEACHABLE MOMENTS” (2.22.20)

23 Feb

I thought when you experience a Teachable Moment, you’re supposed to reflect and even have a change of heart. The only reflection I’m seeing these days is in my mirror – and I’m not too happy with those results either. PLAYLIST FOR “DEMENTIA REDUX” AND “IT’S ABOUT TIME” (3.12.16) #jazz #jazzradio #jazzsingers

13 Mar

Everything was clicking along with great songs, great singers, and a very current and topical theme – Dementia – when I seemed to remember suddenly (and conveniently) that I had done this very same theme three weeks ago. I thought it was the perfect example of “form is content.” I also thought someone in the audience might call me out on this “mistake,” but I guess either the audience is just too kind and considerate to criticize me or dementia is more of a problem than I thought. So I quickly switched gears and since it was Daylight Saving Time “Spring Ahead” night, I played an hour of songs about Time
