PLAYLIST FOR “SEASON FINALE 2017 – SUMMER LISTENING ASSIGNMENTS” (7.1.17)

3 Jul

I’ll be gone for the next 8 weeks while WMNR broadcasts live concerts from Tanglewood by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. So on the season finale, I assigned music and singers who should be on everyone’s summer listening list. I also threw in a few requests and some music I’ve been wanting to play this season but couldn’t find the right theme.

WMNR Fine Arts Radio was celebrating another Musical Theme Week, “Gone Fishin'”. So, of course, I jumped right in, since I’ve spent my life  fishing for the right words and angling for an original thought. PLAYLIST FOR “CELEBRATING MOTHERS” (5.7.16)

9 May

A program for all the mothers in the audience, and for a change I meant it in a literal sense, not as a nasty pejorative. So it was two-hours of music about being a mother, caring for their kids, worrying about their kids, and advising their kids – any of which can be taken to an uncomfortable extreme…but maybe that’s just my story.

PLAYLIST FOR “EITHER/OR” (11.21.15) #jazz #jazzradio #jazzsingers

22 Nov

Each week when I’m putting together a show, I have to decide between so many choices – either a new singer or a classic one; either a familiar song or something more recent; and, most important of all, either libel or slander.  This week I decided to let the singers wrestle with their own Either/Or decisions. Why should I have to do all the work?

In an attempt to answer some of life’s biggest questions (and who isn’t trying these days?), I brought in a new consultant for the evening (pictured below). It didn’t help much.
