PLAYLIST FOR “FOOD & DRINK WEEK” (11.20.20)

22 Nov

Many people are choosing not to gather for Thanksgiving this year and choosing instead to be safe and smart. (It’s only for one year.) So I thought I’d celebrate with some delicious songs about food and drink along with some food for thought from Nina Simone and some food for the soul from Imelda May with Jeff Goldblum. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Be sure to tune in next week for a very special show, the 11th Annual Turntable For One Music To Be Thankful For show.

PLAYLIST FOR “COUPLES THERAPY” – AN ARCHIVE RE-BROADCAST (11.7.20)

8 Nov

Knowing that a lot of people need therapy these days, and especially after Saturday, I played a show from last July. I thought I could help. Okay, really, I thought I could take the night off. This was my intro back then…

So I indulged in a bit of Couples Therapy this week – and before you start sending me your questions and telling me your troubles, let me explain what I meant. I played couples – married or not – who make or have made beautiful music together – literally. Where did the therapy come in? Wouldn’t you find it therapeutic to hear wonderful music like this?

PLAYLIST FOR “HALLOWEEN PARTY – 2020” (10.31.20)

1 Nov

I did a live show this week if only to see if I remembered how to turn on the mic (though I’m sure there were those in the audience hoping I’d forgotten how). But my annual Halloween party is one of my favorite shows of the year because Trick or Treaters always come to the door and I get to guess their costumes and then pass out an appropriate song instead of candy. I ended the show with a reminder about setting their clocks back an hour Saturday night (hoping we don’t turn the clocks back a couple decades on Tuesday).

PLAYLIST FOR “LET’S GO CLUBBING” (AN ARCHIVE RE-BROADCAST) (10.17.20)

18 Oct

This is a re-broadcast of a show from last April, a simpler time when I couldn’t imagine that 8 months later things could be so much worse and heartache and loss could be so preponderant. This is how I introduced the playlist back then:

While everyone’s sheltering in place or self-quarantining, there are two ways to look at this week’s show featuring all live performances from jazz clubs and venues around the world: either I’m trying to make people feel bad because of all the night life we’re missing OR I’m trying to give people hope for what’s to come after this damned pandemic has run at least its first course. Which is it? You be the judge. I just had fun playing some of my favorite singers in front of a band, behind a microphone, in front of an audience.

PLAYLIST FOR “IT’S WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY! SIGH…” (10.10.20)

11 Oct

Saturday was World Mental Health Day. So, of course, I wanted to play two hours of positive, motivating, and encouraging songs. JUST KIDDING!! Doing that would have made me part of the solution, not part of the problem. That’s not the way I roll. In addition to some favorite songs about the questionable mental state of the world, I also played songs about several of the stressors indicating less than optimum mental health. Okay, yes, it was just another show about me.
