PLAYLIST FOR “LYRICALLY, THE BERGMANS” 3.30.24

1 Apr

What do these people have in common? Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt…Frankenstein & the Bride of Frankenstein…Bonnie & Clyde…Marilyn & Alan Bergman? If you said that all of them are famous husband and wife songwriting teams – I really want to see you record collection! I chose to spend a couple hours playing the songs of my two favorites of that bunch.

PLAYLIST FOR “LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN THE MAILBOX!” (5.25.19)

27 May

Instead of a theme, instead of featuring the oft-heard Turntable For One regulars – Sinatra, Tony, Carmen, Ella, Nina, etc. – I put Saturday’s show together with only some of the new music I received in the mail (both physical and virtual) in just the past two weeks. I generously didn’t go into the other things I find in my mail – things like memorial headstone catalogs and threatening letters from Social Security since they found out that I am neither social nor secure. Also: here’s a shout out to all of the singers and musicians listed below – young and old – and to their promoters; without them my audience and I would just have to stare at each other for two hours, and I think we know who would lose that staring contest.

PLAYLIST FOR “NO ANSWERS, ONLY QUESTIONS!” (3.5.16) #jazz #jazzradio #jazzsingers

6 Mar

I thought we could all use a two-hour break from the endless diarrhetic diatribes of easy answers and dichotomous thinking. Not all questions can be answered in a beat-the-buzzer 90-seconds. In fact, some of the swinging questions I played took more than five minutes just to ask.
