PLAYLIST FOR “SPRING 2020” (4.4.20)

Doesn’t seem like there’s much to celebrate these days. But the grass is greening; trees are budding, and flowers are popping out of the ground. That means it’s time for my annual show with the musical theme, Seasonal Allergies. However, instead I chose something more positive. True, I did slip in some wonderfully grumpy Spring songs. Contrafactum – it’s not just a word on Jeopardy.  Contrafactum are two different songs with the same melody but different lyrics. To jazz musicians, they are two tunes with the same chordal structure. (I tossed a few of those in for good measure – excuse the pun.) Who said educational radio is dead? PLAYLIST FOR “SOCIAL DISTANCING” (3.21.20)

At times like these – perilous times, uncertain times – people turn to Turntable For One for information and advice. Clearly these are people who’ve never listened to the show before. But, okay, I can totally pretend to abandon my usual format and inveterate cynicism to talk about something serious. Social Distancing. What is it? How do I do it?
