When’s the last time you played “Is It Animal, Mineral, or Vegetable?” Maybe the last time you ate at Denny’s? Maybe the last time you watched the U.S. Senate? My version of the game (with songs) was a lot more rewarding than the previous two examples. And swinging! Don’t you agree?

PLAYLIST FOR “MANNERS MATTER” 11.18.23

19 Nov

What on earth is going on?  Punching in the house of representatives.  Senators challenging witnesses to fight.  Road rage.  Parking lot rage; grocery store rage. What’s next? Library rage?  People: What are you thinking?  What do you need?  Maybe lessons in good manners?  Okay.  We can do that – because this week on Turntable For One, Manners Matter.  Good manners teach us how to dress, what to say (and not say), how to be courteous and kind. PLAYLIST FOR “NIGHT TIME IS THE RIGHT TIME” 11.11.23

14 Nov

I’ve been having trouble adjusting to Daylight Savings Time going away. They said we’d gain an hour. We did. We gained an extra hour of darkness. My body doesn’t know when to wake up or when to fall asleep – although falling asleep is something I never discuss in front of my audience. It’s a small word, only two letters. But it’s aspirational, inspirational, and conditional, opening a thought or a wish to thousand possibilities.  So in another (likely futile) attempt to Make Grammar Great Again, I presented a musical tribute to the conditional  conjunction – IF.

PLAYLIST FOR “HALLOWEEN PARTY 2023” 10.28.23

30 Oct

It’s that time again. Time for ghost and goblins and ghouls; time for witches, curses, and the walking dead. And that means it’s time for my annual musical tribute to Congress. Whoops – wrong calendar! I mean it’s time for my annual Halloween Party. I play my favorite Halloween songs, and when trick or treaters come to the door, I get to guess who they’re dressed up to be, and then hand out an appropriate song. The final song of the show has absolutely nothing to do with Halloween, but I think it has absolutely everything to do with everything else.

Dear, Honey, Baby, Sweetie, Darling, Doll –  no, I’m not quoting from my listeners’ emails. We’re about to enter into another “spin” cycle, a year when anger, accusations, and name calling fill the air and the airwaves. PLAYLIST FOR “WHAT I DID ON MY SUMMER VACATION” – SEASON 14 OPENER (9.9.23)

11 Sep

Well, they didn’t change the locks at the radio station, so I was back live to start a new season. Was I any less self-involved? Do you mean, did I learn anything over my summer vacation? I think this week’s theme answers that silly question. I played music in tribute to some of my travels and tossed in a few songs about thing I didn’t do. I finished the show with some of the music that caught my ear while I was away. Was anyone happy to have me back? Gee, I forgot to ask that question.
