PLAYLIST FOR “ALL-TALK RADIO” (10.10.15) #jazz #jazzradio #jazzvocalist

10 Oct

Happy to be back after an exciting two weeks at Pundit Training Camp, where I learned the valuable lessons all pundits and news commentators know, such as: it’s not what you have to say, but how long it takes you to say it that matters. I could have talked on and on and on and on about this, but I filled up most of the hour with some great songs about talking.

You’ve all played the game, saying  “in bed” after reading your fortune cookie. Well,  if saying “in bed” turns an ordinary fortune cookie fortune into instant hilarity, think what it will do at the end of song titles? I’ve thought of it. You might want to try it with book titles.

PLAYLIST FOR “COMMENCEMENT SPEECHES” (6.7.14)

Just imagine: you’re sitting on an metal folding chair or in the stands of a stadium, the sun is beating down, and I’m delivering a litany of what I consider the truths and facts of life. Think graduation, think the possibilities and potentials of the future, think an hour of musical advice to graduates!

PLAYLIST FOR “LOVE AND MARRIAGE…AND MUSIC” (2.1.14)

1 Feb

Every week I try to play some of the best marriages of words and music, singer and arranger, what’s written on the sheet music and what’s created in a singer’s mind. This week I also focussed on singers and musicians who are married in a more literal way. Whether they sing together, sing and play, sing and arrange, just about everyone I played is also husband and wife. And by including Mickey Rooney and his 8th wife, I was also able to reinforce the precept that those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it
