Turntable For One returns tonight! And to welcome in the new radio season and say goodbye to summer, get ready for “Fun And Games Week!”
Turntable For One Jazz Vocals! Live Radio! Almost No Personal Invective! 9-11 PM (ED.T.)
Saturday, Sept. 2nd, 9-11 PM (E.D.T.) Turntable For One returns from its summer hiatus ready to go where no other radio show has gone before – probably because other hosts have a better sense of direction and propriety than I do.
Tune in to hear more great jazz singers than ever, more quirky musical themes than ever, and more chances for you to win valuable prizes. (Full Disclosure: there are no chances and no prizes, but I made you keep reading, didn’t I?)
Turntable For One Live! Saturday Nights 9-11 PM (E.D.T.) WMNR Fine Arts Radio and wmnr.org

It’s the season finale. How much of a hint do you need? Before I go, I’ll be handing out summer listening assignments, playing a few songs I’ve wanted to play but couldn’t find the right theme, I’ll be giving away some free CDs, and I’ll be talking about what I’ll be doing during my two-month hiatus when live concerts from Tanglewood with the Boston Symphony Orchestra take over my time slot.

It seems now we even disagree about agreeing to disagree. Things are totally out of control. Don’t you agree? So as a person with a microphone (when I remember to turn it on), don’t I have a solemn responsibility to try to provide some clarity and maybe even some answers? Of course I do. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to do it. Instead I presented a couple hours of people arguing and contradicting each other and never finding common ground. You want cumbaya? Watch Dr. Phil. You want some great singers singing some great songs? Check this out:

Remember the golden moldy oldie days when people were entitled to their own opinions, but never their own facts? How quaint. Ready to move into today’s post-fact world? I will be…on Saturday night.

For Fathers Day: Songs by Dads, songs about Dads, a couple mystery vocalists, and a few rounds of the always-fun game, “Who’s Your Daddy?” And, no, this isn’t the game where Charlie Sheen takes a paternity test. I played some singers and the audience had to guess who is the singer’s father. A good time was had by all…well, okay, I can be certain of this: a good time was had by me.

I’ve always wanted to say this: “Alex, I’d like to make this a true Daily Double.” This phrase has absolutely nothing to do with the music of this week’s show, but I’m going to pretend that Saturday, not Sunday, is the day when I can totally do everything I want to do.

Some say it causes madness, and epilepsy, and pet injuries, and wild animal behavior – here’s a hint: it’s not Justin Bieber, although that’s a pretty good guess.
