PLAYLIST FOR “THE HEART WANTS WHAT IT WANTS” (5.6.17)

6 May

I believe human beings have one determinative principle – although principle seems to be a word that’s fallen from grace and practice these days. “The Heart Wants What It Wants” – Doesn’t that explain why people choose their partners, their meals, their cars, their politicians, and in the case of one of this week’s mystery vocalists, why he married his step-daughter. Emily Dickinson gave that phrase to the world in a letter.  I wonder if she would be happy about that today. I was happy about these songs for this week’s theme.

HINT:

I can think of an old but still-popular axiom that applies to everything from romance to politics, car buying, clothing, and diet. It applies to just about everything except self-restraint. And I’ve thought of about 2 dozen songs the axiom applies to, also.

19 Apr

HINT:

I’ve been gone for a couple of weeks, but I’ll be back this Saturday just in time for Earth Day. How will I be celebrating this special day? By playing all the popular, toe-tapping, sing-a-long songs about renewable energy, global warming, and carbon footprints? Come on – do I look like Al Gore? I’ve got something else in mind.
