PLAYLIST FOR “LET’S AGREE TO DISAGREE” (10.5.19)

5 Oct

We’re divided. I mean, really divided. We don’t agree about good guys or bad guys, we don’t agree about facts or truth, we don’t agree about ice cream being its own food group – wait, that one is just me trying to convince my wife. But all the other stuff is true!. You’d think that someone who has a microphone every week would do what he could to try to bridge the divides and bring people together. Go ahead and think that all you want, but that’s not how I roll. This week even my songs disagreed with each other. One thing was inarguable, however. I played a couple dozen outstanding singers.

I couldn’t get to the studio this week, so I recorded the show at home. I couldn’t think of an unexpected, ironic, thought-provoking theme this week, so I went with what I know. At least I didn’t play “Home On The Range.” You can thank me for that.

There’s strength in numbers, right? So this must have been one of my strongest shows ever because every song sung was sung by two singers. Plus the instrumentals were duets, too. PLAYLIST FOR “CROSSOVERS: JAZZ VS COUNTRY” (5.3.14)

3 May

Good singers can sing practically anything, brave singers have tried at times to cross over from Jazz to Country and the other way, but the smart singers never lose themselves nor their way when traveling in unfamiliar territory. I think this is a collection of smart singers.  The Buddy Rich Big Band got tossed in there mostly to raise the decibel level.

PLAYLIST FOR “PRODUCT PLACEMENT” (12.7.13)

7 Dec

Product placement is encroaching everywhere and into everything – TV shows, movies, on the news, and in our songs, too, for heaven sake. Tonight wasn’t so much a protest or cautionary tale as it was my attempt to get in on this lucrative cash cornucopia.
