PLAYLIST FOR “DUETS & DUOS” – FALL FUNDRAISING 10.26.24

28 Oct

I’m usually doing my annual Halloween show about now, playing classic Halloween songs and greeting trick or treaters at the door. This year I was doing all of the begging and pleading because Fine Arts Radio was practicing the fine art of fundraising! PLAYLIST FOR “MOOD” (1.23.21)

24 Jan

If i were posting on Instagram or Facebook, I could just post an appropriate photo with one single word, MOOD. That doesn’t work so well on radio, so instead I played songs that captured my mood this week as I watched everything that happened, everything that (thank God) didn’t happen, and indulged in the feeling of a new beginning and new hope. PLAYLIST FOR “SARCASM OR NOT SARCASM: A TURNTABLE FOR ONE QUIZ” (5.2.20)

3 May

In times of trouble, people turn to Turntable For One for answers. Yes, it’s inexplicable to me, too. For instance…

Dear Turntable For One – I hear there is light at the end of the tunnel. Should I insert that light into my body.     TFO: No – wrong tunnel.

Dear Turntable For One – Can I mix Mountain Dew and Clorox?     TFO: If you’re drinking Mountain Dew, you don’t need the Clorox.

Dear Turntable For One – How can I tell if a politician is really making a sarcastic joke and not just saying something idiotic?   TFO:  Sarcastic jokes and politicians don’t usually go together. But we’ve been hearing a lot about sarcastic jokes in the White House lately. Time for a refresher course on recognizing true sarcasm when you hear it.

(Warning: The quiz included some trick questions.)

PLAYLIST FOR “LOVE AND MARRIAGE…AND MUSIC” (2.1.14)

1 Feb

Every week I try to play some of the best marriages of words and music, singer and arranger, what’s written on the sheet music and what’s created in a singer’s mind. This week I also focussed on singers and musicians who are married in a more literal way. Whether they sing together, sing and play, sing and arrange, just about everyone I played is also husband and wife. And by including Mickey Rooney and his 8th wife, I was also able to reinforce the precept that those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it
