PLAYLIST FOR “NEW SEASON’S GREETINGS” (12.12.20)

13 Dec

I’ve gotten a ton of new Christmas music and since we all can use anything to raise our spirits these days, I decided to focus this week on this new music – plus an extra-early Christmas present, a single from Freda Payne’s upcoming CD. She’s 78, Johnny Mathis is 85 and they’re both still singing like this. I get out breath pouring my bowl of cereal. This coming week will be the Annual Turntable For One Christmas Party. PLAYLIST FOR “11TH ANNUAL MUSIC TO BE THANKFUL FOR” (11.28.20)

29 Nov

Definitely one of my favorite shows every year because it gives me a chance to highlight music I’m thankful for and invite other WMNR broadcasters (B) and some of my favorite singers (S) to talk about and introduce music that’s important to them. Plus, because this show always falls near my birthday, it’s also “family night” at Turntable For One. So my wife and son join me at the radio station to offer their banter and musical selections. This year was different. My wife, Megan, was in the studio with me; our son, Cody, whom we saw at Thanksgiving via FaceTime (just like so many families this year), reported in from the safety of his NYC apartment. Stay well. Stay safe. Everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Be sure to tune in next week for a very special show, the 11th Annual Turntable For One Music To Be Thankful For show.

PLAYLIST FOR “POSITIVE VIBES” (11.14.20)

15 Nov

I tried a little experiment this week – an experiment in terror for me, that is. Could I send out nothing but positive vibes and eschew my inherent pessimism for an entire two hours? It seems to me the times demand this kind of sacrifice and I went for it with a collection of positive songs, positive singers, positive people (a mini-tribute to Fred Rogers), and a few of my favorite oh-so-positive vibes players – messers Gibbs, Wolfe, and Jackson. And for an extra treat – maybe for me only – I did the show live and in person at the station, something that’s not going to happen again until the infection rates really start to dive.

PLAYLIST FOR “COUPLES THERAPY” – AN ARCHIVE RE-BROADCAST (11.7.20)

8 Nov

Knowing that a lot of people need therapy these days, and especially after Saturday, I played a show from last July. I thought I could help. Okay, really, I thought I could take the night off. This was my intro back then…

So I indulged in a bit of Couples Therapy this week – and before you start sending me your questions and telling me your troubles, let me explain what I meant. I played couples – married or not – who make or have made beautiful music together – literally. Where did the therapy come in? Wouldn’t you find it therapeutic to hear wonderful music like this?
