PLAYLIST FOR “FOUL PLAY” (6.15.24)

What can you do when you’re in a foul mood except play songs about foul play, and foul weather, andfowl weather, and on and on in that foul trajectory? Plus as an early Father’s Day gift, my wife and son joined me in the studio to talk about Cody’s music and to play the game he and I have played for years: count the number of quotes in a Dexter Gordon solo. We’ve all have those terrible Uh-Oh moments. Moments when you know things are going to go terribly terribly wrong. Example: You put a big spoonful of soup in your mouth and instantly know the soup is way too hot to eat. Or your dentist enters the exam room whistling “You Always Hurt The One You Love.” So I gave my audience a couple hours of Uh-Oh moments (as if I don’t do that every week…).

Saturday was World Mental Health Day. So, of course, I wanted to play two hours of positive, motivating, and encouraging songs. JUST KIDDING!! Doing that would have made me part of the solution, not part of the problem. That’s not the way I roll. In addition to some favorite songs about the questionable mental state of the world, I also played songs about several of the stressors indicating less than optimum mental health. Okay, yes, it was just another show about me.

I gave my salute to the Grammys this week with almost every song and CD either a Grammy nominee or a past Grammy winner…of course I couldn’t resist throwing in a few categories I think the Grammys have overlooked.
