PLAYLIST FOR “SUCKING UP TO THE AUDIENCE” (FALL FUNDRAISING DRIVE) 10.25.25

28 Oct

During previous fundraising drives I’ve asked for listener support, I’ve begged, I’ve cajoled, I’ve pleaded, I’ve enjoined, I was going to extort but I got a hard NO from the Fine Arts Radio Legal Department.Okay, so this time I tried to do something I haven’t done before to get people to call or pledge on line. I spent every minute I could of my two-hour show sucking up to the best damned audience in radio!

PLAYLIST FOR “A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO INANIMATE OBJECTS” (AN ARCHIVE REBROADCAST 10.18.25

20 Oct

Saturday’s show was a blast from the past, a show from about a year ago. Here’s what I said back then:

What do you do when you’re so sick of politics, you can’t stand to turn on the news— and when your football teams are losing so badly it ruins Sunday afternoon… and Sunday night… And Thursday night… And Monday night… and when your favorite restaurant starts listing the calories for every single menu item.  I’ll tell you what you do to take your mind off the real world. You do a two-hour musical tribute to inanimate objects!

PLAYLIST FOR “PROMISES, PROMISES” 6.21.25

22 Jun

When I started this show, 15 years ago, I promised no bad jokes. That promise went out the window on the first show. Then I promised I’d never play Rod Stewart or Lawrence Welk.  0 for 2 on those.  Finally, in desperation, I promised never to try to sell  skin care products to my audience. I’ve kept that promise…but of course, I do have one more show to go this season; and I do have 15 boxes of the stuff in my garage.  Hmmmm….  This week? PLAYLIST FOR “BAD HABITS” – AN ARCHIVE REBROADCAST – 2.8.25

9 Feb

Had to take a “snow day” and play a show from the archive. Don’t want to make a habit of it, but snow happens. Here’s what I said about the show in 2021:

We all have them. We may try to hide them with varying degrees of success or failure because – let’s face it – they totally reveal us, they embarrass us, and the worst ones can  actually define us for the rest of our lives. Of course I’m talking about our high school yearbook photos. Of course I’m not talking about our high school yearbook photos. I’m talking about Bad Habits. So it was nothing but Bad Habits this week – ranging from binge watching to smoking, drinking, co-dependence. magical thinking, and more. I’d go on but I’ve been told that rambling is a bad habit.

PLAYLIST FOR “CHRISTMAS PARTY 2024” 12.21.24

23 Dec

The last live show of the year so it was time to party! I told a few bad jokes, made a few insulting remarks, the audience got mad and drank too much. I know, that sounds like every other Turntable For One. What made it a party? Fabulous and favorite Christmas songs from old stars and new. And I recited a prayer for lighting the Menorah, revisited some uncomfortable memories of less-than carefree Hebrew school youth, and played a couple new Hanukah songs. Did I see a Hanukah miracle that night? Yep. My car started after the show even though the temperature had plummeted into the low teens. Happy Holidays, one and all!!
