PLAYLIST FOR “DEMENTIA REDUX” AND “IT’S ABOUT TIME” (3.12.16) #jazz #jazzradio #jazzsingers

13 Mar

Everything was clicking along with great songs, great singers, and a very current and topical theme – Dementia – when I seemed to remember suddenly (and conveniently) that I had done this very same theme three weeks ago. I thought it was the perfect example of “form is content.” I also thought someone in the audience might call me out on this “mistake,” but I guess either the audience is just too kind and considerate to criticize me or dementia is more of a problem than I thought. So I quickly switched gears and since it was Daylight Saving Time “Spring Ahead” night, I played an hour of songs about Time

PLAYLIST FOR “EMBARRASSING SITUATIONS” (9.13.14)

14 Sep

Life is long and more than enough of it is filled with embarrassing situations. It seems to me the least I can do is recognize those situations and totally exploit them by creating an hour of songs about embarrassing moments. Cheating and getting caught? A double embarrassment. Forgetting your keys? That cuts a little too close to home. But worse: forgetting your lyrics. I left that embarrassment for Sinatra and Judy. What? You were expecting empathy? Do I look like Dr. Oz?

What about being served eggplant. That’s not a stressful life event? You gotta be kidding! It’s not an egg, I’m not certain it’s even a plant? Why didn’t anyone consult with me?
