PLAYLIST FOR “ALL BLUES” 10.11.25

12 Oct

About 5 years ago, I did a show called, “I Ain’t Got Nothin’ But The Blues.”  Back then, the country – and the  world – were reeling under a pandemic. Americans were confused, fearful, and angry, emotions reflected in contentious politics. We didn’t  know which way the country was going to go. As they say: the more things change… So what kind of mood do you think I’m still in five years later?

Last show of the season. It always makes me sad for the music I haven’t played, the musical themes I never got to, the bad jokes I never made. Guess the audience lucked out on that third thing. As I have for the past 15 years, I handed out summer listening assignments. Have a great summer, everyone! And if the world is still here and we still have a country, you should be hearing from me in September.

6 Apr

Well, it’s been quite a week, hasn’t it? A real crash course in highs and lows; ups and wow – what downs! After this week, 401k only refers to a pitcher’s strikeout record. So, of course in unsettling times of – say – Crash and burn, people turn to me for solace, for joy, and for a safe place to crash this week on Turntable For One. They made a big mistake!

PLAYLIST FOR “LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN THE MAILBOX!” (5.25.19)

27 May

Instead of a theme, instead of featuring the oft-heard Turntable For One regulars – Sinatra, Tony, Carmen, Ella, Nina, etc. – I put Saturday’s show together with only some of the new music I received in the mail (both physical and virtual) in just the past two weeks. I generously didn’t go into the other things I find in my mail – things like memorial headstone catalogs and threatening letters from Social Security since they found out that I am neither social nor secure. Also: here’s a shout out to all of the singers and musicians listed below – young and old – and to their promoters; without them my audience and I would just have to stare at each other for two hours, and I think we know who would lose that staring contest.

You’ve all played the game, saying  “in bed” after reading your fortune cookie. Well,  if saying “in bed” turns an ordinary fortune cookie fortune into instant hilarity, think what it will do at the end of song titles? I’ve thought of it. You might want to try it with book titles.
