PLAYLIST FOR “DELUGE OF DILEMMAS” 9.8.24

9 Sep

When they come, they may be small, they may be large; they may come one at a time or maybe in bunches. You don’t always see them coming, but they’re coming.

Of course I’m talking about mosquito bites.  No — I’m talking about Dilemmas – those tricky speed bumps life throws at us.  You know, Which is better: fire or ice?  Window or aisle?  Or the one that vexes me most: fries or side salad?

How about these songs for a deluge of dilemmas?

PLAYLIST FOR “SEASON FINALE 2024 – Summer Listening Assignments” 6.29.24

2 Jul

You think you’re getting rid of me, but I’m going to be even closer to you when I bring my ice cream truck to your neighborhood.  And what extra-special ice cream treats will I be dishing up this year?  I’m so glad you asked.

  • Still trying to recover from the Presidential Debate?  Try my Biden Brain Freeze Blizzard. After a couple bites, you won’t know where you are; you won’t know what you just said.
  • And speaking of brain freezes…you’re going to love my RFK Jr. triple-decker ice cream cone.  I hide a gummy worm in each scoop.  Enjoy – it’s a no-brainer!
  • Looking for something you can really bite into?  Try my new Christy Noem hot dogs. Just don’t ask me where I got the the meats.
  • Taylor Swift — I don’t have an ice cream about her. I just thought if I mentioned her name, it would be good for business.
  • I know everyone’s talking abut them, but I’ve got them: genuine Lauren Boebert hand-rolled waffle cones!
  • In tribute to the Supreme Court, I’ve created three special ice cream treats this year.
  • First, we have the Clarence Thomas Ice Cream Sandwich – It’s vanilla ice cream sandwiched between 2 one-thousand dollar bills. How much does it cost? It’s $2005 for most customers – Clarence Thomas just pays with his dignity.
  • I’ve also got the Upside Down American Flag Frappe – It’s Justice Alioto’s favorite –I wasn’t going to sell it this year but my wife made me do it.
  • And last but not least, I’ve got the Supreme Court Banana Split – it’s 3 scoops of delicious ice cream…and 6 bananas. No need to add nuts.
  • I don’t know about you, but I’m totally over Drumsticks – everyone’s tired of Drumticks, right?  I can do better.  This year I’ve got a Breast-and-Thigh Frozen Treat.  It’s white meat and dark meat in a cup, covered with dark chocolate syrup and peanuts.  Look – Don’t blame me – this is what happens when A.I. creates a sundae!
  • And remember: At my ice cream truck, there are no Gag orders!   All the gagging starts after you eat the ice cream.

My next-to-last show of the season and it made me think about all the music I haven’t played for my audience this year, which made me think of all the things I haven’t done in my life. (Sadly, that’s how my mind usually works.) So far there’s only one thing on my bucket list: buy a bucket. PLAYLIST FOR “FOUL PLAY” (6.15.24)

17 Jun

What can you do when you’re in a foul mood except play songs about foul play, and foul weather, andfowl weather, and on and on in that foul trajectory? Plus as an early Father’s Day gift, my wife and son joined me in the studio to talk about Cody’s music and to play the game he and I have played for years: count the number of quotes in a Dexter Gordon solo. PLAYLIST FOR “TURN UP THE QUIET” 5.4.24

5 May

Here are a few recent fan emails.

Dear Turntable For One. Will you keep it down? I’m trying to sleep. (That guy is a regular.)

Dear Turntable For One – Help. I forget how to turn off my radio. Signed, Desperate on Saturday Night.  (I wasn’t able to help her.)

Dear H. William Stine. I keep asking Alexa to play quietly and she keeps saying she doesn’t know that one.

Sense a pattern here? I did. If it’s quiet they want, it’s quiet they got this week.

If you said that all of them are famous husband and wife songwriting teams – I really want to see you record collection! I chose to spend a couple hours playing the songs of my two favorites of that bunch.
