This is a show from last March. At that time Joe Biden was an ascendent candidate and the man of the moment. Ditto for this past week, so I played the show again. PLAYLIST FOR “SOCIAL DISTANCING” (3.21.20)

At times like these – perilous times, uncertain times – people turn to Turntable For One for information and advice. Clearly these are people who’ve never listened to the show before. But, okay, I can totally pretend to abandon my usual format and inveterate cynicism to talk about something serious. Social Distancing. What is it? How do I do it? And what can I do while I’m doing it? I think these songs demonstrate some of the actions and attitudes people should adopt to fill the long months ahead. I’ve tried for months to do this theme, but something horrible would happen – in a mall, or a night club, or, dear God, another school. So, of course, out of decency I deferred. Besides, after a tragedy, that time is always reserved for politicians to offer their “thoughts and prayers” in lieu of doing anything. We’re divided. I mean, really divided. We don’t agree about good guys or bad guys, we don’t agree about facts or truth, we don’t agree about ice cream being its own food group – wait, that one is just me trying to convince my wife. But all the other stuff is true!. You’d think that someone who has a microphone every week would do what he could to try to bridge the divides and bring people together.
