Final show of the season, but I did not go gentle into that good night. I went down swinging. For the first hour I handed out summer listening assignments, music my audience should be listening to while my show is on hiatus. Of course, I included my annual segment of ice cream treats from my ice cream truck, my summer job. Things like the “Rainbow Sherbet Pride Parfait” (Not available in Florida), the “Unsinkable Titan Treat,”the “Mar-A-Lago Milkshake,” and the “Disney Delight” (also not available in Florida). The second hour could be subtitled, “The Long Goodbye.”

All my life people have been telling me, You’re so negative? Why don’t you try to be more positive. Well, for the past month I have been positive – and I’ve been miserable!  Because I have been testing positive on one damned Covid test after another. Those tests have been the most depressing tests I’ve taken since the Myers-Briggs Personality test. But, finally, after a month, I was back, testing negative – and that’s good, right?  But that’s not the way things are supposed to be. Being Negative – that’s not good.  It’s bad. Being positive?  That’s good.  I’m very confused. So I brought a bunch of songs to see which ones Test Positive – in a good way ! -and it was good to be back at my Turntable For One.

But I was eager to feature a few of the singers from around the world who are fighting the good fight to keep jazz alive, thriving, and swinging. I also asked some of my favorites to  record messages introducing a song or singer important and influential to them. Not surprisingly, these wonderful singers all chose American singers as their gold standard. If only that were true here in the country where jazz was born.
