I was metaphorically under the weather this week, 24 hours before most of the country was literally under the weather. So I dipped into the archives for a show from a few months back. It may be more relevant to my mood now than it was when it first aired. This is what I wrote about it back then:

When I started this show, 15 years ago, I promised no bad jokes. That promise went out the window on the first show. Then I promised I’d never play Rod Stewart or Lawrence Welk. 0 for 2 on those. It’s that time again. Time for ghost and goblins and ghouls; time for witches, curses, and the walking dead. And that means it’s time for my annual musical tribute to Congress. Whoops – wrong calendar! I mean it’s time for my annual Halloween Party. I play my favorite Halloween songs, and when trick or treaters come to the door, I get to guess who they’re dressed up to be, and then hand out an appropriate song. The final song of the show has absolutely nothing to do with Halloween, but I think it has absolutely everything to do with everything else.

PLAYLIST FOR “ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARTY 2023” (3.18.23)

March 17th was National Sleep Day – the last holiday in the world I’d like my audience to celebrate. Fortunately, it was also St. Patrick’s Day. That’s more like it. So I presented a mixture of laughter and tears, a perfect combination for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Although, in truth, most of the tears were mine because once again I maintained my tradition of eating a celebratory bowl of Lucky Charms on the air. (Lucky Charms are now gluten-free. It didn’t help.) Still, it was a grand night of Irish and Irish-American singers and a chance to celebrate the music of Jimmy McHugh.

You know how I work very hard planning this show every week? Some of my audience was thinking,”Work harder.” And some were thinking, “This show is planned?” And the rest of them were likely thinking, “Will you get through the opening so we can listen to some music?” The point was this week instead of working hard, I took it easy.
