I get lots of requests from listeners, most of which I can’t fulfill because I sold my dueling pistols many years ago. I didn’t record a new show (from home) this week. Instead I went wandering through the Turntable For One archives looking for my lost youth and innocence. No luck there, but I did find this program from June a couple of years ago, which seems now like a far distant world ago. I’ve tried for months to do this theme, but something horrible would happen – in a mall, or a night club, or, dear God, another school. So, of course, out of decency I deferred. Besides, after a tragedy, that time is always reserved for politicians to offer their “thoughts and prayers” in lieu of doing anything. This week, WMNR is holding its Winter Fundraising Drive and so in my usual subtle and surreptitious way, I offered songs with the subliminal theme of the cleansing benefits of giving your money away.
