PLAYLIST FOR “GROUNDHOG DAY!” (2.2.19)

2 Feb

Explain to me again why we created a holiday to honor an ugly, destructive rodent and a misguided superstition while continuing to discredit the value of scientific facts in our lives? I based my Groundhog Day celebration on the classic movie and this rule: If you hear a song once this week, you’re going to hear it at least twice. (Okay, I did start the show with one Groundhog Day song.)

PLAYLIST FOR “PREVIEW OF COMING ATTRACTIONS FOR 2019” (1.5.19)

6 Jan

The year in music didn’t start on a happy note. Kellye Gray, a unique and passionate singer died suddenly. Still, with all of these interesting new singers and all of the music being released we’ve never heard before from singers and musicians we know and love, I tried to tell my audience 2019 was going to be a good year for Turntable For One. (I’d say it was like preaching to the choir, but I don’t think any choirs listen to my show.)

PLAYLIST FOR “HALLOWEEN PARTY 2018” (10.27.18)

28 Oct

Time for my annual Halloween party with haunting melodies sung by some of my favorite ghosts and others. Another Turntable For One tradition: trick or treaters coming to the door dressed in celebrity costumes and me handing out appropriate songs to them (since I’ve usually eaten all of the Halloween candy by then). This year, because of the truly scary and horrible events of Saturday and the past week(s), I started with a special Nina Simone song I’d play if the poor battered and beleaguered world came to my door. PLAYLIST FOR “THE TRUTH ABOUT MEN” (10.6.18)

7 Oct

Since we learned this week – much to my surprise – that it’s a scary time for men and that men are the true victims here, I had to do something to support all these poor unfortunate men, victims of an unfair society that never gives them any power nor respect. But what could I do being just a simple and largely ignored radio host? How about a testosterone-filled evening of man-splaining, man-rationalizing, and man-boasting songs, plus beer, of course, with an occasional view from a woman’s perspective?
